Message from the President

I continue to be amazed by the passion and commitment of PVAMU alumni. This summer,the National Alumni Association held its annual convention in Los Angeles and I met and mingled with some of this university’s most dedicated lumni. Many of them are consistent givers tothis university and many of them are eager to find ways to stay connected to the university in any way possible. It is always a pleasure to find people who are truly willing and wanting to help shape this university into the best that it can be.Interestingly, it is not only our alumni who are passionate about PVAMU. HONORING THE LEGACY OF PVAMU

Founding Fathers

Born as a slave in Marshall, Texas in 1841, William H. Holland was a soldier, legislator and educator. Commonly referred to as the “Father of Prairie View,” Holland’s political career took flight with his election to the fifteenth legislature as a representative from Waller County in 1876. He introduced legislation in favor of the creation of agricultural and mechanical schools for colored youths in Texas.

Destiny Velez

Destiny Vélez, a sophomore Management Information Systems major and honor student in the College of Business, was rowned Miss Puerto Rico 2015 by the Miss America Organization.Vélez, who is a member of the university’s bowling team, was the first ever student-athlete from the Southwestern Athletic Association (SWAC) to participate in the Miss America Competition. Since the age of 13, Destiny has been participating in the Miss America Outstanding Teen program, were she was finalist. She is clearly the product of the Outstanding Teen program, having won a Miss title at the local preliminaries and now a state title as Miss Puerto Rico.
